David Beckham, 31 year old soccer (football if you live anywhere but the U.S.) star will be coming to Los Angeles to play for the Galaxy. Did anyone know that there was a professional soccer team in the United States? Well that very question is the whole reason why Beckham is coming to America, to increase its popularity. I don't know if a quarter of a billion dollars is going to complete this task. Maybe if the money was used to advertise the sport, but to give it to a soccer player who is already past his prime doesn't make much sense to me.
Soccer is actually a fun sport and million's of kids are playing the sport, however; its popularity ends with kids. In America football, baseball, and basketball seems to rule the idea of what counts as a legitimate sports. It will be interesting to see if one man can change the concept of an entire sport in America. Some people predict that soccer will become the most popular sport in America. Your initial reaction is probably fat chance. However, 25 years from now Caucasians will be a minority and the Hispanic population may become the majority and soccer is very popular in Mexico and Latin and South America.
